The Sun Show

Produced in 2005 and both honored that year as winners at the Aegis Film and Video Awards

Our pair of educational videos for elementary school level still look great today!

Imagine a live TV morning show that’s “By kids, About kids, For kids.” Two young co-anchors introduce multiple segments involving kid field reporters, kids interviewing adult experts, and high quality animated scenes, all enhanced by an original score, hit song clips, and our terrific original song, “Too Much Sun” that plays over the end credits. Kids love the entertainment while they learn why and how to protect their skin from overexposure to the sun.

Due to the age span in elementary school, we created videos for ages 6-8 and 9-11, as if they were two separate episodes of a regularly scheduled TV show.

The scripts were developed by a team that included experts in public health, education, and dermatology working together to ensure scientific accuracy and  adherance to educational standards.

For the younger audience, we present the benefits vs. dangers of sunlight. Next they learn about the existence of ultraviolet radiation and, through animation, they see how it can damage the skin. Skin cancer is mentioned but, for this age group, only briefly.  After watching a fast-paced variety of short segments, the children will be able and motivated to protect themselves from over-exposure to the sun.

Older children will learn in greater detail about skin cancer, and will understand how they can prevent it. The glamour of sun tanning will be debunked for this pre-teen group by seeing the ugly results of a 50-year trip in our time machine.  And, on account of the “Man in Shade” they’ll think twice before going outdoors without sun protection.
